I haven’t seen any spells cast (other than my own, of course), no healing potions used, no turning invisible, or anything like that. The archers shoot arrows and the ones with knives try to stab you. In my experience, the Brotherhood assassins are a bit too straightforward in combat. There is some room for improvement, which is why it’s an 8.5/10 instead of a 10/10. I personally don’t care about that - the locations I’ve run into them aren’t places I’d be sneaking around anyway - but I thought I’d mention that in case it would bother you. This means that you can’t sneak up on them and assassinate them before they try to assassinate you. The Brotherhood assassins are then enabled.
The ambushes happen when you reach a certain spot. Or maybe multiple people have sent hits on you and that’s why the Brotherhood is being so damn persistent. Perhaps a rival mage wants you gone, perhaps you stole something with tons of sentimental value, or maybe you’re a paladin who pissed off the wrong corrupted noble. I like this a lot, because it allows plenty of room for roleplaying. So far as I know, the mod never says who sent the hit on you. (Note that you can’t loot the shrouded armor off of them, but they do have some nice custom weapons and shields.) Thanks to the loot, the fun notes, and handpicked locations, the Dark Brotherhood hasn’t worn out its welcome for me. Without mods, these attacks happen way too often and the attacks quickly become a nuisance.īut that is absolutely not the case with this mod. They are also all very clumsy and wake you up with loud noises, so it’s not a complete ambush. In that expansion, you get attacked in your sleep by the Brotherhood. I can’t help but to compare this to the Dark Brotherhood attacks in Morrowind‘s Tribunal expansion. I also love the notes that some of them are carrying - for example, the one at Cloud Top warns the assassin to absolutely not touch or try to read the “Fingers of the Mountain” book. They’re a difficult, though not impossible fight, and some of them have nice loot. The assassin locations make sense, but are still random enough to keep me surprised.
The mod does exactly what it says it does, and it does it well almost all the time. If you continue reading, you’ll encounter some minor spoilers, so be aware of that. The TL DR: This mod adds hostile Dark Brotherhood assassins throughout the world, and I love it.
